Fighting to rid the youth and teens from smoking

Fighting teenage smoking has been an uphill battle. They are not concerned with the health hazards. The habit brings about a manifestation of rebellion of their adolescence or peer pressure.   This is one aspect of the whole problem. There are a number of organizations that are dedicating their resources into trying to curtail this growing problem. The statistics in trying to eradicate this problem might be impressive and commendable. On addressing it on a ratio of sorts, every one in four teenagers is a smoker. That is a dismal figure. It leaves a lot to be done in terms of making this habit disappear in this age group.

The significant drop in the numbers over the years could be attributed to some issues like price hikes in the tobacco industry, school impositions that emphasize on a tobacco free atmosphere and also youth campaigns against tobacco. 

Media has a strong impact on teenagers and youth. They assume these messages are targeted at their age group. The actors that play these parts in the media also become role models. The youth wants to make an impression on their social circle by emulating these portrayals. Anti-smoking advertisements have a great impact. Teenagers are impressionable youngsters. This should be one way to make them aware of the hazards. Increasing the taxes on a pack of cigarettes in most of the states has made the access to tobacco a little more difficult for the teenagers. This will make them quit smoking due to the price.  

Fighting for this cause can take a lot of effort. It should start with the family right up to the government. There is a lot through ways and means of making the access to tobacco a little more difficult for the youth. At the same time working towards a method to make them aware of the health hazards this habit is a better way. Smoking is not cool. An addiction can only progressively get worse and is hard to shake off. Smokers would have started the habit in their teenage years. At that time dreaming that stopping is within their means. Later they realize the battle is hard.
