Smoking can lead to a host of respiratory disorders like Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema and COPD and Lung cancer and many more. It damages the lungs and every little cell that works to make the breathing easy and effortless. Each breath involves innumerable cells working to transfer the oxygen that we breathe in to the blood. This retrieves the carbon dioxide from the blood cells which translates into exhaling. People with asthma have trouble with breathing when they have an attack. This is because asthmatics have poor airway operation. The air passages swell and constrict easy flow of air to and from the lungs. This bad habit damages the air passages and the lungs in much the same way as an asthma attack. An asthma patient who smokes can bring on the attacks at a higher frequency in a compounded manner with little help even from medication.
The flare-ups can be higher in a patient with shortness of breath. The asthma is being put into risk. Regular medication may not work. Coughing due to this inflamed air passages can lead to less sleep or insomnia and can effect the over all well being.
Primary smokers with asthma are not the only ones at risk for asthma flare-ups. Second hand smoking can also trigger an asthma attack. Smoking not only harms the body but also that of the others unwittingly. Always avoid smokes in a public place. This can help you to some extent. The stress on the family and friends for a need to have a smoke free atmosphere is necessary for an asthmatic patient. .Or else the frequency of attacks and severity will increase with no aid from regular medicines. There maybe a need to increase your medicine dose along with the doctor visits may also be compounded.
